somatic coaching
what is somatic coaching?
Soma is a word of Ancient Greek origin meaning “the living body.”
Somatic coaching expands on conventional life coaching by working with the whole person — not just the thinking mind.
Many people move through life primarily in their heads, relying on thought alone to navigate challenges, decisions, and change. But this can also lead to overthinking, self-doubt, disconnection, and feeling stuck. In the process, we often lose connection with the wisdom and intelligence of the body.
Somatic coaching helps restore that connection.
My approach integrates body, mind, emotions, and nervous system awareness to support deeper self-understanding, meaningful change, and lasting transformation.
This work can help you:
feel more connected to yourself and your emotions
move beyond limiting patterns
develop greater self-trust and resilience
navigate change with more clarity and confidence
create a life that feels more aligned and meaningful
WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION
Sessions generally include time to arrive, check in, reconnect with the body, explore what is present, and a gentle closing with reflection and integration. But beyond that, no two sessions are exactly the same because each person, season of life, and nervous system is unique.
Depending on your needs, sessions may include reflective conversation, mindfulness, body awareness, movement, breathwork, emotional exploration, creativity, or support navigating life challenges and change.
Sessions are collaborative, trauma-informed, and guided by what feels supportive and manageable for you.
Together, we may explore:
nervous system regulation and grounding
emotions, patterns, and self-awareness
stress, burnout, and overwhelm
life transitions and uncertainty
self-trust, boundaries, and authenticity
reconnecting with meaning, purpose, and aliveness
You do not need to arrive with everything figured out. Often, the work begins simply by slowing down and noticing what is present.
Your role in the process
Somatic coaching is a collaborative process.
We work together toward what feels most meaningful and important for you, with sessions guided by your intentions and what is emerging in the present moment.
You are not expected to perform or achieve anything. Instead, openness, curiosity, and a willingness to engage gently and honestly with your experience can support deeper awareness and change.
Between sessions, you may be invited to explore simple reflections or practices. These are not homework, but gentle invitations to bring greater awareness into your everyday life in a way that feels supportive and realistic for you.
Often, it is the small moments of presence and self-connection that create the most meaningful and lasting shifts.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Working with the body may involve some movement, but everything is always an invitation and personalised to suit you. Somatic work does not require fitness, flexibility, or physical performance. Much of the work can be done seated, through awareness, breath, or small supportive practices.
-
You are never pressured to share anything about your past. At times, aspects of your history may naturally arise if they feel relevant to what you are currently experiencing, but this work is not about reliving painful experiences.
The focus is on helping you reconnect with your strengths, inner resources, and capacity for self-awareness so you can navigate the present with greater clarity, resilience, and choice.
-
Working somatically and mindfully helps us connect with our authentic selves. The emotions we may have had to hide or push away for many years can come to the surface. Although coaching is not a space for therapy, emotions are a natural process and entirely welcome. You will be supported with compassion. You are also at choice and can step back anytime if it feels right.
-
Coaching and therapy are different forms of support, and coaching is not a substitute for therapy.
While somatic coaching may draw on body-based and mindfulness approaches that overlap with therapeutic practices, the focus is generally more present- and future-oriented. Sessions support greater self-awareness, embodiment, nervous system regulation, and meaningful, values-aligned change.
Therapy often involves the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions, as well as deeper work around trauma, emotional healing, and psychological distress.
Somatic coaching is designed for generally high-functioning individuals seeking support with stress, life transitions, self-understanding, personal growth, and reconnecting with themselves in a more grounded and embodied way.
-
Some people come for a few sessions during a period of transition or stress, while others engage in ongoing work over a longer period of personal growth and integration. We can discuss what feels supportive for your needs and goals.

Begin Coaching
It is standard practice in coaching to sign a client–coach agreement so that expectations, boundaries, and ways of working are clear for both of us. Once this is in place, we schedule your sessions and begin the coaching process.
